Hi Everyone,
Would appreciate the thoughts of those who may have a particular interest in
the first year of studies of a Bachelor of General Studies which might be
available through the collective offerings of OERu member institutions?
There are already a few good courses either proposed or already in place (green
highlight)

Perhaps what we need to do now is fill out the gaps and firm up on a structure
which might be acceptable to most partners.
I personally think the generic skills area needs some further input. Along
with the current Communication Theory and Writing for Success listed in this
space we should probably consider some foundational studies in mathematics
(Essential Maths), study management (Study Skills) and e-literacy (Digital
Skills). There may be other general areas which all students would benefit
from undertaking and would be recognised as valuable by most institutions.
There must also be space for us to think about other specific discipline first
year courses. I'm particularly attracted to titles like "Introduction to
Psychology" or "Introduction to Accounting" or "Introduction to ?????". I'm
sure some of these first level courses are already available through open
sources sites and may not need partner development.
Anyhow, this is just a dialogue starter. All thoughts gratefully appreciated.
Regards,
David
